Quick view of what your students are doing in the classroom.
I am so looking forward to a new school year. I hope all of you had a wonderful summer and that your children are ready to come back to school. I know how hard of an adjustment it is for everyone, and I will keep that in mind the first couple of weeks. Having said that, I do also think it is necessary to get them back on a schedule as soon as possible. For both 7th and 8th grade, their first vocabulary test will be on Friday, September 15th. Both classes will have definitions due on Tuesday and sentences due on Friday. I will not stray from this schedule unless there is no school on Friday. In these cases, their test will be moved to Thursday.
In all of my classes, homework is required. I use this feedback to drive my teaching and my test schedule. If they do not do their homework, I assume that they understand the material. I do not give homework every night and, oftentimes, I will give long-term projects. Hopefully, students will work on them a bit every night so they are not doing everything the night before. This is a time-management skill that I feel is very important for all of my students to learn.
I look forward to meeting all of you on Curriculum Night, September 14th at 6:00 (doors will open at 5:15).
Sincerely, Annemarie Weber
